Carla Sanderson

p: (646) 499-3818

Carla Sanderson is an outspoken advocate for her clients, many of whom are experiencing the most difficult times in their lives. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Ms. Sanderson became an attorney because she was keenly aware of the injustices faced by so many in our society. With power comes responsibility and Ms. Sanderson utilizes her access to courts and prisons to protect the rights of her clients and further the development of a more equal and just society.

For the past many years, Ms. Sanderson has honed her litigation skills through defending her clients in state and federal courts. Ms. Sanderson has been involved in a number of complex cases and has represented clients charged with offenses such as, narcotics trafficking, sale of prescriptions, racketeering, murder, financial frauds, robbery, assault, DWI, and many other crimes. One of her proudest accomplishments was her role in the Southern District of New York trial resulting in a “not guilty” verdict for a client who had faced a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison if convicted but instead walked out of court a free man.

Ms. Sanderson is a proud LGBT attorney and ally in the Black Lives Matter movement. She has represented many individuals who have been discriminated against in the workplace just for being themselves. In 2015, after years of hard work, Ms. Sanderson won asylum for a gay and HIV+ man from Honduras. During her time as a law student she successfully petitioned for asylum on behalf of a refugee from Côte d'Ivoire and put her language skills to work as a Spanish translator for a gay asylum seeker from Ecuador.

After passing the New York and New Jersey bar exams, Ms. Sanderson completed a legal clerkship with Superior Court Judge, Honorable Francis B. Schultz, of Hudson County, New Jersey where she worked closely with the judge and successfully mediated a number of disputes.

Ms. Sanderson is currently a resident of Brooklyn and an avid supporter of the Ladies Village Soccer community soccer league.
